Eligibility Criteria for an IPS Officer
The basic eligibility criteria to apply for the IPS exam is graduation only. Candidates who wish to see themselves as IPS Officers need to qualify for the UPSC exam and to appear for the exam, they must fulfil the below-discussed eligibility criterion.
The Eligibility Criteria required to be an IPS Officer or IPS Eligibility are specified below:
- Nationality: To appear for the UPSC exam or to be an IPS officer, candidates must have Indian citizenship.
- Age limit to apply: The minimum age required to appear for the exam is 21 years and the maximum age depends upon the physical disability and the category of the candidates.
- Minimum Education Qualification: To appear for the exam, candidates must possess a graduation degree from a recognized university.
- Number of Attempts: The authority of the exam provides a total of six attempts for Unreserved and Nine for the other categories.
- Who can not apply: The officers who are already serving as civil officers on the post of the IAS or IFS aren’t eligible to apply for IPS Exam.
- Physical Standards: Physical Standards to be IPS officers will be according to the Rule book of the Exam.
Training of an IPS Officer
All the UPSC Exam qualifiers will be trained by specific officers. The probationary training for the IPS officers in India is provided in Mussoorie at Lal Bahadur Shastri National Academy of Administration. In the academy, the students are trained for the post of IPS officer. In the National Training Academy of administration, candidates will be trained for three months and after this, the rest of the training will be completed at Vallabhbhai Patel National Police Academy, Hyderabad. The training officers or the training authority took two and half years to complete the training of the IPS officers.
After completing the training for two and half years, the candidates finally become IPS officers. The candidates have to go through mandatory Mid-career Training for all the Indian Police Service officers spread across their entire service span. The topper of the Indian Police Training course receives the Prime Minister’s Baton. The training for the Indian Police Service included physical training and various laws which are necessary for law enforcement activities.
It’s not easy to be an IPS officer and the IPS training is more difficult and requires more physical actions. Salary Structure of IPS
Indian Police Service or the IPS is the only government position that has a uniform code. An IPS officer’s Salary is very much similar to the salary of an IAS officer, with only slight differences. As per the 7th pay commission, the system of pay grades for Civil Services has been removed and now the consolidation pay level has been announced by the authority. Later, the pay scale for IPS is decided only on the basic pay along with Dearness Allowance, Transportation Allowance, and House Rent Allowance.
